Burpee Golden Beet (58 days)

Burpee Golden beet made its debut in 1970.   If you are annoyed when those pesky red beets "bleeding" all over your counters then this is the beet for you.  Want to wow your dinner guests?  Slice them straight out of the garden when they are almost golden-orange and toss them in a salad like we do.  They don't seem to have the earthy taste some beets can have raw. So they are just yummy and healthy raw!

Cook them and they turn buttercup yellow.  Golden beets retain a silk smooth sweet flavor even when cooked.

Golden beets are globe shaped and remain mild even when they get older.  The tops can't be "beet" (lol couldn't resist) either; they are tasty, green and even sweet to some palates.

*For some reason golden beets can have a lower germination rate so remember to plant a few extra.

Planting Tips For Beet Seeds:

Beet seeds can be planted in early spring or midsummer.  Soak seeds overnight in damp towel before planting for excellent germination.  Plant beet seeds 1” apart and thin weakest seedlings to desired spacing.  Keep soil evenly moist to prevent beet roots from getting woody.  For longer harvest, stagger beet plantings every 2-3 weeks.

Heirloom seeds are hardy but always take care with your garden seeds to give them the appropriate amount of moisture - not letting the vegetable seeds dry out prematurely or overwatering and possibly having them rot.

I agree, golden beets are so sweet and don't have the earthy flavor that some beets can have. They are not as vigorous has some of the other types, but make up for it in taste.
