Morris Heading Collard Green Seeds

Brassic a oleracea
Morris Heading Collard Greens  (85 days)

Morris Heading has long been a Southern tradition for top quality collard greens.  It produces loose, heavy heads on short stems.

Morris Heading grows 18-24" tall.  Slow to bolt.

It has intense blue green leaves that have an excellent flavor and are full of nutrients when prepared in the "Southern Tradition".  OK, well maybe shouldn't use all that bacon fat unless of course you working it off in your garden ;)

Researchers at the University of California at Berkeley have recently discovered that 3,3'-Diindolylmethane in Brassica vegetables such as collard greens is a potent modulator of the innate immune response system with potent anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-cancer activity.[1]  Source Wikipedia

Planting Tips:

Start spring seedlings 4-5 weeks before transplanting.  Start fall transplants 2-3 months before first frost.  Transplant out to the garden when 3” tall at least 90 days before your first frost in midsummer.  When transplanting, enrich soil with a little blood and bone meal.  Will tolerate warmer temperatures than other cole crops.  Keeping soil evenly moist is a must for a healthy crop.

Seeding Rate:

60,000-70,000 plants/acre,

Heirloom seeds are hardy but always take care with your garden seeds to give them the appropriate amount of moisture - not letting the vegetable seeds dry out prematurely or overwatering and possibly having them rot.
