A fantastic amaranth that was a volunteer where we grew tomatoes last year at The Russian River Vineyard.  It has the wonderful deep color of a Merlot wine so in their honor we are calling it Russian River Merlot. 

This amaranth can reach 8'-12' tall and can produce multiple seed heads on one plant.  The leaves are delicious when young in salads and the seed/grain is know the world over for a nutritious food. 

It can also be used to make some stunning arrangements at the Russian River Winery did!
