Southport white globe is also know as "Silver Ball" and "White Rocca".

Southport Onion produces medium size white globe shaped onions. They are a firm and pungent onion great for cooking imparting a nice strong onion flavor to your favorite recipes.   

A standard white processing onion and great for farmers market.  Suitable for home gardens and market growers. Young onions can be pulled up and used as scallions (65 days). 

A long day onion for the Northern states.

Southport onion is still one of the best white keepers available today.

TIP:  Globe onions require a light, fertile, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter.  All onions will benefit from bone meal and wood ashes worked into this soil.

Planting Tips:

Day length sensitive – check for which is best in your area.  Needs a light friable soil to grow successfully.  Start in early spring, scatter seeds in tray ¼”- ½” apart in moist soil and put in warm place.  Transplant out 8-10 weeks later in final spacing.  Thinned onions are great in salads!

Seeding Rate:

300,000 plants/acre, aproximately 3 lb.

Heirloom seeds are hardy but always take care with your garden seeds to give them the appropriate amount of moisture - not letting the vegetable seeds dry out prematurely or overwatering and possibly having them rot.
