Hours and Location

Where we live and work!

We used to be located on our sustainably solar- and wind-powered organic farm in Covelo, a small town located in the center of the Round Valley.   It is in Mendocino County in California.  The Round Valley's estimated population is about 3,700 people.  Although it is only 38 miles from Hwy 101, the winding road to get there will take you along rivers and through mountains.   The journey itself takes about an hour and keeps the Round Valley protected/isolated from the hustle and bustle of the modern world.   The community is small, but very well suited for an agricultural lifestyle.  The mountains that protect the valley are a haven for wildlife such as elk, black bear, bald eagles, mountain lions, deer, bobcats -- and the salmon are returning to the rivers and creeks.

While Covelo was a great place to live and to grow awesome organic seed, our expanding business has necessitated our pulling up stakes in 2015 and relocating to Chico, a less isolated town in the middle of Butte County ag land in California.  With an estimated population of over 88,000, it's certainly a different place from our cozy little Covelo.  Chico has its own charms, including a Mediterranean climate that's ideal for growing all sorts of goodies, and beautiful Bidwell Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the country.  Wildlife abounds in the Park, the surrounding hills, and along the Sacramento River.  Black-tailed deer, mountain lions, beavers, otters, salmon, black bears, wild turkeys, and myriad waterfowl make the area their home.

The move to Chico has made us more centrally located, which in turn has made shipping to and from our new warehouse much easier (and less expensive).  We've also been able to open up a retail shop in the front corner of our warehouse, so customers can come in, say hello, and peruse not just our top quality vegetable, grain, and herb seeds, but our excellent gardening tools, information-packed books, and unique gifts.  Come on in and introduce yourself!

Chico is great (if rather hotter in the summer than we're used to), and business is up, but we are champing at the bit to get the dirt back under our nails and a new farm under our feet, so we can try out this new fantastic growing climate and continue to provide our own sustainably home-grown organic heirloom seed to our customers.  If you've got a line on a potential Sustainable Seed Co Farm in the Chico area, please let us know.  Farmer John needs his dirt therapy!

While we're looking for a new farm, we will continue to provide our customers around the world with high-quality, sustainably grown, open-pollinated heirloom seed from sources we trust, and germination rates that meet or exceed Federal regulation.

your website has great energy and very nice looking and the way that you describe who and what you are has a passion to it: stay with the passion as the word spreads that we need ( city people) all people to stay aware of what we eat and how to grow it: Peace
