Organic Redventure Celery Seed

.50 g 1,000-1,500 organic celery seeds per package

A cross between Giant Red Celery and Ventura Celery.

Ventura is one of the most adaptive and resilient celery varieties.

Giant red celery is one of Europe's most treasured heirlooms not only for it's striking color, but it's true celery flavor that is prized in soups.

Redventure combines the best of both of these celeries.

This celery produces intense red stalks offset by emerald green leaves.

Harvest a stalk at a time for salads or the whole thing for market gardens.

Fully mature plants produce a nice semi-blanched golden-pink heart.

Very popular at farmer's markets.

Planting Tips:

Start indoors 12 weeks prior to transplanting outdoors.

Celery seed is tiny!  Use sterile, fine soil and cover the seed by dusting a light covering.  Many people plant too deeply.  An easy way to lightly cover your fine/tiny celery seed is to use a flour sifter or large tea strainer and gently shake a coating over the seed. Keep soil moist (not soggy) and at 75 degrees.  Seedlings will emerge in 2-3 weeks.

Celery can be fussy, needing everything just right.  Good compost, kelp & bone meal mixed in with soil will add nourishment.  Start seedlings indoors by scattering seed on top of soil – must be kept moist at all times.  In 8-12 weeks when 5” tall, plant out in garden.  Consistent watering is essential.

Transplant outdoors when weather has settled and there are no more rapid temperature swings.  Bolting can be caused when night time temps get below 55 degrees.  So do not transplant to early.

Celery needs a very rich, moderately acidic, organic soil and lots of water.   Feed organic fish emulsion and seaweed every two weeks till harvest.

Seeding Rate:

35,000-40,000 plants/acre,

Heirloom seeds are hardy but always take care with your garden seeds to give them the appropriate amount of moisture - not letting the vegetable seeds dry out prematurely or overwatering and possibly having them rot.
