1929  Steele Briggs Seed Co. says...
"Produces leaves in abundance throughout the summer; may be raised in heat and transplanted 3 feet apart each way in good soil."

1937  Mc Fayden Seed Co. says....
"The Hot Weather Spinach. This plant, when prepared for the table, so greatly resembles Spinach in appearance and flavor that most people will not be aware of the difference. Makes strong plants which will resist heat and drought."

Planting Tips for Heirloom Spinach:

Spinach is a cool weather crop and can either be planted in spring or fall.  For a spring crop, be sure to start these vegetable seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date so that they can be transplanted in very early spring.  For a fall harvest, these heirloom seeds can be directly sown.  For best results it is very important to keep soil evenly moist with regular light waterings. 

When direct seeding, you should plant these heirloom seeds 1-2" apart.  Once they have shown several true leaves and are about 4" tall, you should then thin to final spacing.  For continual harvests, stagger plantings every 2-3 weeks for delicous spinach all season long.

Seeding Rate: 32,000 plants/acre, aproximately 2 lb.

Heirloom seeds are hardy but always take care with your garden seeds to give them the appropriate amount of moisture - not letting the vegetable seeds dry out prematurely or overwatering and possibly having them rot.

    Wow this spinach is great! First time for me for this seed and it's growing very well. I'm in the San Diego area so regular spinach has always been hard for me to grow because it bolts so quickly. But this seems super hardy. Eating it raw is not preferred (I wouldn't use this variety for a salad) but wow it wilts up beautifully for a warm spinach dish. Deeelish! I'm so glad I'm growing this. It really produces!
