Little Marvel Pea (62 days)

Little Marvel was released by Sutton and Sons of England around 1900.  However, it was first sold in the US by the J.H. Gregory Seed Co. a few years later.

Little Marvel has vigorous 18-28" vines that bear sweet green 3" pods.  Each pod contains 6-8 plump, luscious and sugary peas.

Holds very well on the vine and stays tender/sweet even when mature.  Wilt resistance.  Excellent for freezing.

1952 Landreth Seed Co. says about Little Marvel...
"A delicacy of sweetness. Vines dark green, dwarf, 18" high.  Pods are green, 3" long, nearly round, square-ended, filled with 7-8 peas which are dark green, appetizing in appearance, very tender and sugary."

TIP:  Remember peas are a cool weather crop; quality and quanity suffer when the temperature rises.

Recommended by the Following State Universities or Ag Extension Offices as a variety that performs well for their region .  CA, OR, TX

Planting Tips for Heirloom Peas:

Heirloom peas like it cool, so you can plant them 3-4 weeks before your last frost date but be sure the soil is well drained and raised in beds or rows.  Germination in these heirloom peas is as low as 45 degrees and it is often said that a cooler pea will be sweeter.  Using soil inoculation will increase yields by boosting the available nitrogen in the soil.

For the highest yields of these delicous garden peas, make sure they have thin wire or string to climb.  This will give them more room to grow, thus collecting more sunshine and creating better yields.  Remember to continually pick the ripe pods as to encourage a longer harvest.

Heirloom seeds are hardy, but always take care with your garden seeds to give them the appropriate amount of moisture - don't let the vegetable seeds dry out prematurely, and don't overwater and possibly have them rot.
