Organic Dark Green Zucchini (45-65 days)

An early vigorous bush zucchini with straight, smooth, dark-green mottled fruits.  Tastiest at 6-8" with pale greenish-white, firm flesh.  Great for market growers and easy to grow.  Very prolific with heavy yields.  You will be giving it away to everyone you know.  We do, then we make zucchini bread...YUM.

Zucchinis contain useful amounts of folate (24 mcg/100 g), potassium (280 mg/100 g) and vitamin A (384 IU [115 mcg]/100 g). Zucchinis are also an excellent source of vitamin C. Dark green zucchini also have some beta carotene and all types provide small quantities of minerals. Skin colours range from almost black, dark green, pale green, pale green with grey, and yellow. The darker the squash, the more the nutrients.

With their high water content (more than 95 percent), zucchini squashes are very low in calories. There are only 13 calories in a half-cup of raw zucchini, with a slight increase to 18 calories in the same quantity cooked.  Definitely wash your zucchini but don't peel because most of the nutrients are in the skin.

Planting Tips For Heirloom Organic Summer Squash Seeds:

Heirloom summer squash are warm weather crops, as the name implies and the germination temperature verifies.  Only plant once the soil temperature warms to at least 70 degrees.  Mounding up small hills will create the right soil consistancy and allow the soil to warm quicker.  Mix in a shovelful of compost with handfulls of bone meal and wood ash to create the perfect soil environment for these heirloom seeds.

Plant 3-6 heirloom squash seeds per hill.  Once they have shown true leaves and grown in size, you should thin out to the 3 strongest plants.  Remember, harvest these summer squash continually in order to keep the plant producing.

Seed Care tips for Organic Heirloom Summer Squash:

Organic heirloom seeds are hardy but always take care with your garden seeds to give them the appropriate amount of moisture - not letting the vegetable seeds dry out prematurely or overwatering and possibly having them rot.
