Heirloom Vegetable Seeds

Based in the California wine county, we live here, grow here and support the local economy here in California. We are helping to grow a New Sustainable California.

We started this vegetable seed company because we wanted to be healthier, stronger, and more local in our food sources. We wanted to bring the food back to the backyard!

The heirloom tomatoes grown in your backyard are up to 8 times more nutritious than those you can buy at the store. One tablespoon of your homemade salsa is equal to three heads of store-bought lettuce! How do you get your kids to “eat their spinach”? Grow that spinach with their help! They’ll not only love you for the time you spend with them, but for the strong, healthy bodies you nourish with those backyard greens.

Grow your own prescriptions in the backyard!

Heirloom variety vegetables are nutrient dense and packed with vitamins and minerals. Protect yourself, your health and the health of your family by growing a better (and tastier!) product than you could possibly buy at the store!

We are constantly updating the vegetable seed catalog – building an heirloom seed company catalog is no small task! You’ll find new vegetable pictures and descriptions of open-pollinated vegetables popping up every day. So, if you have a particular question about the vegetable seed catalog, please email us.

We want to have the absolute best heirloom vegetable seed catalog, and we need your help to do this! Please share some photos of your best open-pollinated heirloom vegetables. We are accepting submissions for the $100 Gift Certificate Contest for the best heirloom vegetable photo. These photos will be used on the on-line heirloom seeds catalog and the printed vegetable seed catalog for next year. We’re also going to be sending a newsletter filled with all sorts of information on the open-pollinated heirloom seeds in our catalog. We will highlight organic growing, community gardens, growing tips, re-discovered heirloom seeds and how Sustainable Seed Company is playing a role in the community. Make sure you sign up today!

Looking for new heirloom seeds for our catalog is a passion for us. Do you have a rare heirloom vegetable seed that you would like to see saved? Send those heirloom seeds to us, with their complete story, so that we can propagate it and share it with the world. Many amazing rare heirloom seeds are dropped from vegetable seed catalogs every year, to be lost forever. We have a network of organic seed growers that we will put to work immediately to help save our rare heirloom seeds. Don’t let another rare seed get dropped from a vegetable seed catalog this year. If you do your part. we will do ours, and together we can save open-pollinated heirloom seeds from being lost forever!

We want to be the absolute best heirloom seed company. We want to have the best heirloom seeds available for you to buy. IF there is an heirloom seed you can not find for sale, a vegetable seed you haven’t seen offered in years, or you have some organic seed to share, please let us know so we can try to include it in our vegetable seed catalog. We truly want to set ourselves apart from other heirloom seed catalogs and vegetable seed companies. We know how hard it is to find quality heirloom seeds for sale, and sometimes you have to thumb through many an heirloom seed catalog to find just the vegetable seed you are looking for. Let us help; we want to be the one heirloom seed company you turn to.

Thank you so much, and enjoy your organic vegetable gardening experience!

The pictures here are of us and our activities! The heirloom vegetables are ones we’ve grown around here, the bees in the picture we rescued from a 75-year-old hive in an old dairy barn, and the chicken is our most elusive chicken! She can get out of almost anywhere! If you click on her picture, you’ll go to one of our sister sites, The Wine Country Chicken Chat, that Farmer John started to answer some of the many questions about backyard chicken raising.

We strive to sell the highest quality open pollinated and heirloom vegetable seeds. Our chief concern is empowering you, the customer, to be able to grow your own vegetables year after year by being able to save your seed. Not growing GMO seed or hybrid vegetable seed allows you to keep the seed your plants create and know you'll get the same vegetable every time. We value your input and comments and want to create a community of concerned citizens who care about the food they eat, the ground they grow their vegetables in, and the world in which we live. To protect your pollinators and bees, please limit or eliminate your pesticides use, they will thank you for it!
