This fast-growing wildflower looks great in mixes, especially with native grasses.  Native to the mid-west, Prairie Coneflower provides nectar for butterflies and a large number of native bee species.  Plants are drought hardy and deer resistant.

Soil: Tolerant of a wide variety of soils.  Prefers good drainage.

When to sow:  Direct sow fall or spring.  For spring transplants, sow 8 weeks before last frost. Cold/moist stratify for best results: place seeds between moist paper towels inside a sealed plastic bag for 3 months at 40 degrees F.  

Blooming period: Summer (into fall if moisture is available).  Blooms first year after sowing if transplanted.
