How to grow the best heirloom organic radishes
Heirloom organic radishes are easy to grow. They will grow best in a rich, organic, loose soil. Loose soil is essential for good root formation. Amend hard packed clay soils with organic compost.
Plant heirloom radish seed 1/4" deep. You may broadcast seed your bed and thin it later or plant a seed every 1 1/2".
Most people broadcast heirloom radish seed because it is far easier. The tiny radish seedlings you thin out are perfect additions for salads.
Like most root crops organic radishes perform best in the early spring and late fall. Many radishes will go straight to seed and not produce an edible root in the heat of summer.
To keep a continuous organic radish supply going, plant radish seed every two weeks.
Sow heirloom organic radishes for winter in the very late summer. Take them up just before freezing and cover with sand in the root cellar. These organic radishes will store all winter! Now that is fine winter eating!
