(Capsicum chinense)

10 seeds per pkg

We are not sure why they are called ghost peppers...other than you should be afraid of them ;)

You certainly make a deal with the devil when you stick one of these hot peppers in your mouth.

Bhut Jolkia is said to hold the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records as the hottest pepper with Scoville units in excess of 1,000,000  That is over 300 times hotter than most jalapenos to give you a frame of reference.  The most anyone has ever eaten in a sitting is 13 peppers as seen here on the Guinness Books video.

Ghost peppers have wrinkled skin with very thin walls.  They range from 2-3" in length.  The plant itself will reach 3-4' if you live in zone 8 plus.  Very productive.

This pepper needs consistent heat to germinate.  It prefers 80-85F plus and is still slow to germinate so be patient as it can take 4-16 weeks. Using a heat mat will greatly help keep a CONSTANT warm temperature.  Dropping soil temps at night will delay germination.  We not only start them in the greenhouse, but leave them there in 3-5 gallon pots to grow all year because our nights can be cool.  We have some plants that are three years old and still keep producing!

Planting Tips for Organic Heirloom Hot Peppers:

Start these vegetable seeds indoors about 6-8 weeks before your last frost date.  Be sure to keep them in a warm place so that the soil temperature stays above 75°.  Young heirloom pepper plants like it to stay warm and will develop best if kept happy.

Only transplant after the organic heirloom pepper seedlings have shown several sets of their true leaves and only once you are sure the outside soil temperature is consistently above 65°.

Organic Heirloom seeds are hardy but always take care with your garden seeds to give them the appropriate amount of moisture - don't let the vegetable seeds dry out prematurely, and don't overwater and possibly have them rot.
