(55 days) Blue Lake 274 is the classic bean that comes to mind when you think of a green bean. Known in the canning industry for years because of its reliability, huge yields, disease resistance and its ability to bear all at once making canning a much easier task. Blue Lake produces plump, tender, dark green pods that are about 5 1/2"s long. The bush itself only grows about 16" saving space in your garden, but producing big juicy yields. This is THE green bean for canning or freezing. Bush Blue Lake bean resists BCMV; tolerates NY15.
The seeds have a high germination rate and the plants are very prolific.
I have grown this variety for over twenty years. It usually provides me with two canner loads (20 pints) of cut beans from an approximately 40-foot row. We love the canned beans much more than frozen, which taste raw to us. They are a quick fix for dinner.
