Pleasantly happy with this collection

I have had some trouble with the rosemary and lavender - but who doesn't have trouble with that from seed? But the others have been GREAT little seedlings so far.

Wow! Great Grower!

Every seed came up, they're about 3' tall with a sturdy stem. Waiting until mid March to put out in the southern (Ga) garden. Will be licking my lips watching them flower and fruit. I like these as an addition to a traditional red tomato salad.

2019/20 Order

All of the seed in my order arrived in good time. The sweet chinese giant pepper is the only variety I've planted, and it germinated great and are doing well under lights.

In the ground!

My seeds came on time and I started them for sets. Just planted about 240 onion sets 2 weeks ago and they look great!

5 stars

I had 40 mph winds my greenhouse fell over and was so surprised the seeds survived two days in the cold under soil and are still growing. The roots were in tact so i transplanted them, they are doing just fine. 10 stars

Zea mays

Hickory King Yellow Corn Seeds (90-115 days)

Originating in Appalachia around the late 1800s.

Huge yellow kernels not seen in modern corn.

Hickory King produces plants that are 12' tall.

Each stalk produces 2 very large ears.

Excellent for roasting, grits, cornmeal, and cornuts.

Hickory king has a very high leafy green matter which makes it perfect for silage.

Tight husks which help keep out corn worms.

Was also known as "bingo corn" in the South as the kernels are so big they were used as bingo chips!

There are many uses for dent corns like: Hominy, masa harina (what tamales or chips are made out of), Posole, Corn Bread, Corn Muffins, Hush Puppies, Corn Fritters, Grits, and Corn Soup just to name a few!

TIP: Remember these plants grow BIG and produce two LARGE ears. That means they should be planted on 6"-8" centers so they can help support each other in high winds. You can also help by making sure hickory king gets plenty of bone meal when planting. Bone meal will encourage a vigorous root system and help stem strength. If you don't live in an area of high winds you should be fine.

Zea mays Stowell's Evergreen Sweet Corn (95 days)   Stowell's Evergreen Sweet Corn was originally developed by Nathaniel Newman Stowell of Burlington, New Jersey in 1848. Stowell was a farmer and spent some years refining this variety, which he developed by crossing Menomony Soft Corn and Northern Sugar Corn. In the fall of 1855, he sold just two ears of seed corn to a close friend for four dollars, on the agreement that the seed was for personal use only. Stowell's "friend" then re-sold th...
