King of the Garden Pole Lima
King of the Garden Pole Lima (88 days)
Introduced in 1883 by Frank Platt. Frank had been selecting for limas that produce 6-seeded pods on a tall pole habit. Succeed he did. Vines are 8-9' tall and yield tons of 8" pods that are 1 1/4" wide. Said to have a rich, creamy, almost honey like flavor, King of the Garden Pole Limas are an old time favorite for its dependability and taste.
1942 Schell's Seed Co. says about King of the Garden Pole Lima Bean...
"Very prolific and the quality is very fine. The pods usually contain 5 or 6 very large beans. A very popular variety."
Recommended by the Following State Universities or Ag Extension Offices as a variety that performs well for their region . TX
This hard to find heirloom has been the choice in my family and our area, Southern New Jersey for generations. I am 78 years old. After I moved to California my mother would bring a whole suitcase of frozen limas when she came to visit.
