Every seed came up, they're about 3' tall with a sturdy stem. Waiting until mid March to put out in the southern (Ga) garden. Will be licking my lips watching them flower and fruit. I like these as an addition to a traditional red tomato salad.
I had 40 mph winds my greenhouse fell over and was so surprised the seeds survived two days in the cold under soil and are still growing. The roots were in tact so i transplanted them, they are doing just fine. 10 stars

Carolyn Male was given this tomato by her co-worker Carl Swidorski, who said the seed originated in Poland circa 1900.
Opalka grows about 4-5" long and about 2-3" wide. The fruits normally weigh around 7-8 ounces. Opalka is know for making an intense, thick, dark red tomato sauce that has a super concentrated flavor.
Mother Earth News says about Opalka tomato.... "If you’re on a flavor quest, look at Polish heirlooms with pepper-shaped fruits such as ‘Opalka’. This variety was discovered by Male and is quickly becoming a favorite among gardeners who have canning and drying on their minds."
Opalka tomato is also recommended by Mother Earth News as a good variety to grow on the Gulf Coast.
